6 Awesome Activities to Do During Winter in Florida

While it is common for people up north to sometimes experience seasonal affective disorder (SAD) because of the weather, not so much in Florida. Continue reading to learn why the moods of people spending their winter in Florida are much better.

You may not get to experience snow in this state, but there are certainly plenty of things to do and see. This can keep you preoccupied, plus you’ll get to spend some quality time with your loved ones.

If you’re wondering what to do during winter in Florida, then read on. We’ll give you 6 awesome activities to do in Bradenton!

1. Farmers’ Market

You’ll find the Bradenton Farmers’ Market on Old Main Street every Saturday from October until the end of May. Here, you can buy ingredients that are locally grown and sourced. This includes dairy products, meat, seafood, and other seasonal items as well as delicious treats.

Going to the Farmers’ Market is a great way to support local businesses. Plus, the fruits and veggies found here are grown with care and love. As a result, they’ll be both tastier and healthier than the fruits and vegetables you find at your local grocery store.

Not only will it be fun to stroll through, but there are also plenty of free family activities. Plus, every third Saturday, there’s also Mainly Art, which is where local artists and craftspeople show and sell their artwork.

2. Music on Main

This is another fun event to go to in the winter. Music on Main is on every first Friday from July until December; in fact, this year, they’ve scheduled an act for January as well!

As the name suggests, Lakewood Ranch Main Street is closed off for a free concert series and block party from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Anyone is welcome; however, anyone under 16 years old who is at Music on Main after 6:00 pm will need to be supervised by an adult. Otherwise, they’ll be asked to leave the property.

Not only will you get to enjoy outstanding live music, but you’ll also find food vendors, beer trucks, sponsor booths, rides, and other activities for the kids. The greatest thing about Music on Main is all the proceeds go to a non-profit organization. So not only can you and your family have some fun during the winter, but you can also help contribute to some great causes.

Do note that while you’re allowed to bring lawn chairs and your dogs (they must be on a short leash), you’re not allowed to bring your own coolers.

3. Dog Adoptions at Petsmart

Is there room in your heart and house for a dog? A new puppy can certainly cheer you up during the winter, as they’ll love you unconditionally and will cuddle up to you whenever you need it.

Instead of buying from a breeder, get yourself over to the Petsmart in Sarasota for their dog adoption days. They’ve teamed up with the Humane Society of Manatee County (HSMC) to bring you dog adoption days every third Saturday of each month. Although it’s a decent drive from Bradenton, it’ll be worth it when you and your family meet your next family member at the shop.

Even if you don’t walk away with a new puppy to take home, you can still take a small trip through Petsmart to look at all the creatures they have in there. It’s a great way to educate your children about the responsibilities that come with having pets and you may even find the perfect reptile or small animal to bring home.

4. Trivia Night

This one’s a great idea if you want to go out for date night with your spouse or want to meet up with your friends for some fun. Every Thursday, Darwin Brewing holds Trivia Night; it’s hosted by Charlie Kennedy of Steve-O Entertainment (no relation to the actor/comedian).

You and your spouse (and/or friends) will compete weekly with other teams. If you have a competitive personality, then you’re sure to love Trivia Night.

There’s also a 10-week tournament for those who are hardcore about Trivia Night. If you’re up for it, then you can win some great prizes at the end, plus bragging rights!

5. Go out for a Meal

When the winter weather hits, you can feel sluggish; you won’t really feel like cooking and all you’ll want to do is curl up in bed with a nice book to read or TV show to watch.

In those moments where you don’t want to go through the effort of making a meal, round up your family members and head out for a nice meal. Bradenton is home to plenty of high-quality restaurants, so it’ll be great to explore the gastronomic offers this city has to offer.

Not only can you take in the sights when you go out for a meal, but you’ll also get to enjoy the unique ambiance each restaurant has to offer.

6. Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort

Winter may seem like a weird time to go camping, but Florida’s mild winters actually make camping perfect! You won’t suffer under the hot sun, yet you won’t be freezing outside either.

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort spans across 750 acres and has plenty of trails, pools, and other entertainment. You children can even roast marshmallows with Disney characters for free!

This resort has great amenities, considering you can rent golf carts to get around and they’re pet-friendly. Bring Fido along too!
