Get Artsy
If you’re looking for a bit of charming history, some art, and possibly some shopping, then you’ll want to hit up the Village of The Arts in Bradenton.
The area is marked by renovated cottages built in the 1920s. In fact, some of which have been converted to artist studios. It’s an ideal place to stretch your legs while sipping a coffee and taking in the unique sights.
Experience Farm-Fresh Fun
Old Main Street in Bradenton will once again be host to the Farmers’ Market. But it’s more than just a wide selection of fresh produce and other treats. Every third Saturday there’s a collection of artists showing off their wares.
There are also planned chef demonstrations that are geared towards budding chefs or seasoned seniors.
Take In Some History
The Manatee area is rich in history and prides itself on its agricultural impact. With this in mind, you can visit the Manatee County Agricultural Museum in Palmetto that gives visitors a clearer picture of how the state became a leader in the industry through photos and memorabilia.
There are other museums in the area to check out, including the Florida Maritime Museum that focuses on the area’s nautical history. Meanwhile, the South Florida Museum focuses more on natural history while the Florida Railroad Museum is a bit more self-explanatory in name but no less interesting.
Do The Riverwalk
The Riverwalk in Bradenton follows along the shores of the Manatee River. It’s a beautiful sight at sundown, but it also offers a lot of activities for all ages including an amphitheater featuring live entertainment.
The 1.5-mile park (which is undergoing an expansion) also features a fishing pier, “outdoor living rooms” to relax and enjoy the views, and an area for senior-friendly exercises such as Tai Chi. The area is also wheelchair accessible.

December is not a time when fun slows down in Manatee County. From craft markets, art walks, concerts, and even a Nutcracker Tea Party, seniors are sure to find fun outside of their residences.
You can even ring in the new year the right way with celebrations that are part of Main Street Live in downtown Bradenton.
